Centurions – Missing in Action….

A tiny whilst back the owner of #69 and the owner of #27 and myself (#35 or #89 or #90!) had an early morning get collectively at the Gathering of the Griffin for a complete sit down update on where we are with tracking all 100 original Scania Centurions on, The Centurion List. Now the list itself is obtaining much better and better and the information on all the trucks is increasing all the time particularly with items like the Scania Centurion trucks page on Faceache. Bearing in thoughts that I for 1 was a little jaded, the list run by way of took a couple of hours, despite the fact that this could have been due to Neil Jarrold’s interruptions I’m not confident, anyway I will place up the updated list when I can bear in mind how to publish it on right here!

Possessing gone by way of the list we then got onto what could feasible described as “the rumours” bit. A load of info we have but all fairly inconclusive so the very best factor is to share it with you and hopefully as soon as again you can fill in some of the blanks and knock some of the useless bits on the head.

Not confident how nicely you can see that but I hope you can. The Peter Roff truck is a very interesting case of Chinese whispers. We have a very good thought of the story behind it but we would very much like to hear it from a single of you that probably knew the Roff fleet or even drove for him at the time. The rest of the lines on the table (not those sort!) are a rumour or unsubstantiated reality each, i.e. every single line must refer to one truck. Please leave your feedback under as a comment or email me ben@truckblog.co.uk. I feel the Millar Transport truck MDZ 8140 is not a Centurion. I had a relatively great font of Irish information say it wasn’t on the fleet and a second individual commented that reg was on a BMW?! All this info you are providing will hopefully end up in a book all about the 100, so anything you can contribute is for the higher excellent of 3 series Scania lovers, any genuine info on any of the 100 trucks could be of use for that matter At some point I will require to collect high quality photos of every single truck, now that will be a challenge!

Centurions – Missing in Action….

Centurions #eight #9 #14

Above are 2 very lucky owner drivers and no doubt really deserved also. On the left with the Olympic blue 143 500 is Maxi Mehrlich and on the proper with the white 143 500 is Gorden Ardren. As you are most likely all conscious by now I’ve been trying to gain as significantly information on Scania’s original 25 special edition Centurion trucks as I can. This most recent flurry of information comes from an outstanding supply, none other than Nagel Langdons personal industrial director, Patrick Griffiths. This is what Patricks very first e mail said

A couple of corrections for your Centurion list.

J4 MJM was bought via Langdon Industries Ltd by owner driver Maxi Mehrlich therefore the J4 MJM. Copy of the original sales invoice is attached. We dug out a copy of this only a handful of months ago for the present owner.

J2 GLA was purchased via Langdon Industries Ltd by owner driver Gordon Ardren therefore the J2 GLA.

J981BYA was purchased by means of Langdon Industries Ltd by owner driver Derek Champion. J981BYA it was a Scania R143 MA 4×2 R450 in white.

Myself or Patrick haven’t managed to locate a photo of J981 BYA when it was new, so if any of you have then please e mail it me ben@truckblog.co.uk – I did managed to uncover this photo of J981 but I do not know whose photo it is or who owned the truck at the time, but I’m guessing it may be Plymouth owner driver Peter Orr. There is a slight query mark as to whether this was a 450hp or 500hp when new.

The truck particulars are as follows

#8 Scania 143 500 Topline Streamline 4×2 Tractor – new to Maxi Mehrlich – now owned and fully restored by Dessie Mackin at Mackin International in Ireland. Above is the original invoice for the truck. I have cropped out the figures but I will inform you that it was in between £60-£65,000 ahead of VAT. I don’t know why but I was a small shocked that there is no mention of the edition quantity on the invoice. Prior to and soon after photos as follows

#9 Scania 143 500 Topline Streamline 4×2 Tractor – new to Gorden Ardren – the truck has in the last handful of years been completely restored by Ashley Pearce and is now living in Ireland under the ownership of Donnell & Ellis. I have to say I helped convince Ashley Pearce to repaint the truck in Scania’s 3 Series pro-mo colours of blue with pink strips following giving him some posters an brochures. What a claim to fame! See below for its present condition.

#14 Scania 143 450 (Might have been a 500hp?) Topline Streamline 4×2 Tractor – new to Derek Champion – now owned by Shropshire Forrestry Contractors as far as I’m conscious. The final photo I have of it was when it was with its last owner Neil Johnson. Once more if you have a current photo of it considering that Neil Johnson had it please e mail me a copy ben@truckblog.co.uk

Thanks again to Patrick at Nagel Langdons for the info and photographs. Hopefully it’ll lead to much more info about a lot more Centurions. I feel it’s incredible that the 3 Langdon Owner Drivers trucks are all nonetheless on the road and we can trace there where about’s as I know how difficult it is proving to find out info about some of the other people.
