Spyker Update (Spykdate): Swedish Business Declared Not Bankrupt by Dutch Court, Will Develop EVs

Raise your Heinekens to the sky, esoteric sports vehicle lovers: Spyker is not and never ever was bankrupt. According to the Dutch supercar business, a nearby court has now overturned the company’s bankruptcy ruling from December and rendered the selection “null and void.” Spyker lives! B6 Venators for everybody, ja!

If it were only that simple. While Spyker now claims to have “bridge funding” from an unidentified supply and will settle with its creditors “in a matter of weeks,” the firm has not disclosed where it is going to create the B6 Venator, the $ 187,000 6-cylinder sports-auto notion very first shown in 2013. In response to our concerns about its vacated factory (it was evicted), meager cash flow (roughly the median worth of a U.S. property), a bond program to fund B6 development (don’t ask), and a random merger with a mysterious American electric aircraft business, Spyker told us that CEO Victor Muller “has selected to not give any additional comments at this stage besides the press release issued yesterday” and that “more info shall be provided in due course.” Excellent!

Muller’s current plan is to construct battery-electric Spykers in the “foreseeable future,” by which he may help with yet another bond scheme or stock sale to a Chinese company. Soon after reviewing Spyker’s public financial reports—which the business hasn’t updated in a year and a half—we’re thinking 2015 will not be the year any person methods into a new B6. (May we direct you to the nearest Porsche retailer?) On the flip side, kudos to Spyker for staying above water—for now, at least.

Performing a Double Dutch

In the last week I have been sent a couple of decent DAF photographs. If you want to get technical DAF do have about a 16% marketplace share of the European heavy vehicle marketplace so it is not surprising that you see a single on 2 on your travels. The one particular above was a prime spot it has to be mentioned. Weblog favourite Steve Marsh spotted this white DAF in Dublin port, nothing at all unusual about a white DAF in Dublin I hear you say. The cause it is a best spot is that the Space Cabbed XF105 is over 3200KM from its base in Casablanca. I have no idea what he was loaded with coming to Dublin from North Africa but I’m guessing it was clothes, well why not?! What I’d really like is for it to have reloaded is a complete load of Guiness bound for warmer climbs. Marshy was driving in Dublin port and spotted one thing distinct about the truck, on further inspection it turns out it is from some exactly where distinct. I’m fairly confident there have not been several trucks from Casablanca to Ireland even though I guess it could be a typical run?? With a lack of photos on the social media web sites I feel it could be far more of a one off trip.

Subsequent up from not so far away, is another blog favourite, Transam Trucking. This one was spotted on the M25 in Essex near the QE2 bridge by Dodgy Dave. Nothing too out of the ordinary in a massive black Transam Trucking DAF truck I know but have yet another look…….this a single is the little quick one axle trailer. This tends to make it almost a mini artic I guess, so leading spotting Dodgy!

Spotted one thing a bit distinct from the rest?? Then why not share it on the blog. You can e-mail me ben@truckblog.co.uk or you can post your photos on the TB Facebook page, just search for http://www.truckblog.co.uk in the Facebook search bar.

Performing a Double Dutch

Is it time to go Dutch on electric autos?

As a nation, we nonetheless do not actually trust electric cars (EV’s). In spite of the government incentives and less costly running costs, there’s nonetheless one thing about electric vehicles that arouses suspicion – it could be a be concerned about how far we can get on a single charge, the hassle of refueling or the fact the factors expense so much more to get than equivalent fossil-fuelled models.

Or it could simply be that these incentives just aren’t enough. So is it time we upped our game in the UK and looked to areas like Holland and Norway, the only countries on the planet where EV sales account for far more than 1% of new vehicles sold, to see why their incentive schemes are operating?

Going Dutch

Worldwide sales of EV’s have now tipped the 200,000-a-year mark, which indicates number-crunchers can now begin analyzing the figures to work out which incentives are attracting buyers and why – a activity taken on by the boffins at the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT).

ICCT analysts have examined the connection amongst EV incentives and take up across 8 European nations, as well as China, Japan and the US and created a report, entitled Driving Electrification, which has found the only areas exactly where EV’s account for far more than 1% of new automobiles sold are those that provide substantial financial incentives or have legal specifications for supplying electric cars.

Norway, where plug-ins and hybrids accounted for 6.1% of all cars sold in 2013, presently leads the way in EV take-up, closely followed by the Netherlands exactly where eco-cars created up about 5% of vehicle sales last year.

It comes as no surprise to find out these 2 nations offer the highest incentives, by way of purchase and registration tax exemptions and fuel rates. For instance, reduce running fees and tax incentives in Norway mean that motorists can save as considerably as €11,500 (£9,357) by getting an all-electric Renault Zoe alternatively of a Clio, its petrol-powered equivalent. German motorists, on the other hand, would only stand to save €1,362 (£1,108), producing the hassle-totally free Clio the much more appealing option.

It’s not all about the funds

The ICCT report also identified that it wasn’t just monetary incentives that drove higher EV sales and other alternatives such as the shared use and shared ownership of EV’s ought to be deemed.

California, for example, is the only place outside of Norway and Holland where EV’s make up much more than 1% of all new car sales, and this is largely down a state-wide regulation that calls for car manufacturers to provide a specific quantity of zero-emission automobiles that come with added parking positive aspects and grants of about $ 2,450 (£1,465) for complete electric cars and $ 1,498 (£895) for hybrids.

Is it time to get a hybrid auto

The take-up in Holland could be set to develop even additional following the news that the A15 motorway, which runs from the port of Rotterdam to the east of the nation, is to be turned into the world’s 1st sustainable motorway, used by a big number of EV’s, all powered from renewable sources and generated along the motorway’s corridor.

If the program is a success it is hoped that by next year 40,000 individuals will own or share an EV powered by solar or wind energy from panels or turbines located alongside the A15.

So perhaps it is time we looked at generating our ‘smart motorways’ a small bit smarter.

Over to you – what incentives would make you take the plunge and go electric?
