New Cadillac boss Johan de Nysschen is a busy man with luxury on his mind. In 9 days’ time, he has defended higher costs, confirmed production of the rear-wheel-drive flagship, and announced Cadillac would move to New York City to become a trendier, separate company unit from Common Motors. Now, the firm he leads has announced that the flagship will be named the CT6—and that most every Cadillac will get a new name as they’re replaced.

We initially thought Cadillac would name its Mercedes-Benz S-class competitor the LTS, as the automaker trademarked that name 2 years ago, but according to GM, the “-TS” moniker will be out for all future sedans and coupes. Alternatively, the final number in the badge will denote how huge and expensive the model is. Cadillac has also trademarked “CT5,” but in contrast to the Infiniti technique of altering every name overnight—which has left absolutely everyone, like us, confused to this day about which model is which—any new names will roll out only as the vehicles get redesigned. (Cadillac is following a similar pattern in applying its new wreathless crest.) SUVs and crossovers will have a diverse, as-yet-unannounced naming strategy, although we’re specific “Escalade” will remain in location, even if de Nysschen can not figure out why folks maintain buying them.

As for the CT6, it will employ “advanced, lightweight supplies and new body-construction strategies,” which we assume to imply heavy doses of aluminum and higher-strength steel. The automobile will launch late subsequent year and be assembled in GM’s Hamtramck, Michigan, plant. No other particulars are obtainable at this point.

What authority manages the speed limits where drivers approach towns?

d85aa Speeding road sign

Question:

Please advise what authority manages the speed limits when approaching towns on this road, is it a national, provincial or municipal road authority? I ask because the variance between towns is impossible to keep in touch with, while driving over the 5 or 6 hours it takes to get from Grabouw to Plettenberg Bay. There are signs ranging from 60/70/80/90/100 and finally 120kph speed limits, all while driving on the N2. They have mobile cameras in every town so that even the most law abiding driver with speed control can be caught speeding if he does not notice a sign giving a new speed limit.

For example, Riversdale imposes a 90kph speed limit for 8kms outside the town and it is all through farming land on a beautiful wide road, while Riviersonderend allows 120kph immediately one leaves town and is no more difficult than  Riversdale. It appears as if the local traffic dept. are bent on collecting fines by this means and it is not a fair system and creates driver frustration, which leads to the accidents they are trying to avoid, even if they happen 10kms away when overtaking badly because their mind is still on the speeding fine they think they got trapped for.

Answer:

Traffic departments are allowed to post their own speed limits depending on the traffic conditions. As the signs display the speed limit the driver must adhere to the specific limit. Camera prosecutions may only be instituted if the Prosecuting authority in the area allows it. They have certain criteria that must be complied with.
