N.J. Assembly Delays Vote on ‘Electronic’ Auto Insurance coverage Bill

The New Jersey Assembly has delayed a vote on a measure that would enable drivers in New Jersey to use intelligent phones, computers or tablets to prove they carry auto insurance in the course of traffic stops.

The bill was due to be voted on Monday, but it was pulled from the agenda with no explanation.

The bill would authorize drivers to use an electronic form of their vehicle insurance coverage coverage. That means motorists will not necessarily have to carry a paper copy to prove they are covered.

The measure also states that the use of an electronic format does not imply the user consents to a police search of the device.

Drivers must now supply proof of insurance in paper form. The bill would permit them to use either paper or electronic formats.

Prosecutors: N.J. Man Falsely Claimed He Was Carjacked

Authorities say a central New Jersey man lied when he claimed he had been carjacked by an individual who then crashed his car into numerous parked vehicles.

Union County prosecutors announced Wednesday that 29-year-old Darwin Edward of New Brunswick, N.J., has been charged with insurance fraud and false swearing. His bail was set at $ 35,000.

A telephone quantity for Edward could not be situated Wednesday, and it was not recognized if he has retained a lawyer. He could face numerous years in prison if convicted.

The charges stem from an April 2013 accident in Plainfield, N.J.

Prosecutors say Edward claimed a person carjacked his Lexus SC400 sports coupe and drove off in it, striking many automobiles and wrecking his automobile. They say the matter ultimately cost his insurance coverage company about $ 30,000 in claims.

Prosecutors: N.J. Man Falsely Claimed He Was Carjacked
