Nissan is expanding a recall to include a lot more late-model Altima sedans with faulty hood latches, according to a filing with the National Highway Visitors Security Administration.
In September, Nissan recalled 220,423 Altimas from 2013 for secondary hood latches—the ones you really touch right after the major latch pops the hood—that can bind due to an assembly difficulty or from exposure to rust and debris. If the hood is unlatched and adequate air catches it at speed, effectively, you know the rest. Now, Nissan is recalling all 2014 and some 2015 models after getting latch complaints from owners of newer cars. About 625,000 Altimas are impacted in the U.S., despite the fact that Nissan says it isn’t carried out tallying the final quantity and does not yet know the root result in. So far, Altimas produced soon after December 31, 2014 are not incorporated.
The earlier repair involved bending the latch “hood actuation” lever so it wouldn’t speak to the hood and the greasing of the latch itself. Nissan has notified dealers and will send owners an interim notice if they cannot figure out a repair within the next 2 months.
In January, Nissan recalled 170,665 late-model Pathfinder and Infiniti JX35/QX60 SUVs for difficulties with secondary hood latches, which had been installed incorrectly so that the hood-release cable would not engage the locking claw.
The present Altima has been recalled 5 other instances given that debuting in 2012, like the initial hood-latch recall, twice for faulty passenger-airbag sensors, after for incorrect spare-tire inflation, and one more for loose suspension and steering bolts on early production models.
