How long can I use my vehicle from the expiry of the disc with load on?

Question:

I have a rig comprising of a mechanical  horse and a lowbed trailer.

Now the operators permit and annual license expires on say the 28th of February 2015.

This vehicle however is on the road going through Harrismith  , when a Provincial inspector stops the vehicle.

The inspector sees that the permit/license expires on the 28th, the same day.

Now this inspector claims the vehicle may not be on the road and he issues a fine  of R2500.00  for the so called offense.

Surely the inspector can’t write a fine before 1200 hrs midnight?

Also is there not a 21x day grace period after expiry date?

Actually  this is a true incident one of our vehicles experienced recently.

What is so disturbing about it, is that the traffic  cop actually tried to get KFC  money out of the driver, then we saw the driver was not

Going to give in, he retaliated by issuing the ticket.

Answer:

You are allowed to use the vehicle for 21 days after expiry of the disc with a load on. The relevant regulations are 23, 145 and 267 for the licence, RWC and OP card.

Can I drive a commercial truck with link trailer if only back trailer has a load and front piece (trailer) is empty?

Question:

Can I drive a commercial truck with link trailer if only back trailer has a load and front piece (trailer) is empty?

Answer:

You may as long as the total load on the vehicle does not exceed 5 x the mass of the driving axle/s of the vehicle. Reg 239(3) requires that the drive axle must weigh 1/5 of the total load. If the load on the rear trailer is the only mass on the vehicle there is a very good chance that you are going to be overloaded due to a drive axle under load.

Hope you understand the explanation.
