Back seat arguments between siblings has been revealed as the largest annoyance for parents on extended vehicle journeys.

The report from Vauxhall Motors was aptly titled Are We Practically There However? with this becoming the question that regularly infuriates around 45% of respondents.

Regularly becoming asked to pull in for a toilet quit was cited by practically 40% a third are persistently concerned about young passengers suffering with motion sickness and 22% do not get pleasure from having to fiddle around with musical requests.

The survey also asked about the approaches adults use to maintain their youngsters entertained and found 93% of 5 to 18-year-olds now use hi-tech phones or tablet devices on long journeys. 

Road trips ‘a staple component of British life’;

An in-car DVD player is utilized by 27% of adults, but these contemporary distractions have not really killed off old favourites such as quantity plate games – with 87% saying they begin up such entertainment on the road. 

MD and chair Tim Tozer said: “As Vauxhall Motors leads the automobile sector with advances in technology, which includes satellite navigation systems, IntelliLink and Siri Eyes Totally free, journeys are simpler. 

“Family members road trips to the seaside or going to family remain a staple part of British life.”

The researchers produced a leading-10 list of games to play in the car, which was headed by the classic I-Spy. Nominating items for passengers to spot came subsequent, followed by a one-minute challenge to spot different vehicle tends to make. 

Many travellers will have observed excitable youngsters waving at them by means of the back window, and this seems to be the 4th most popular distraction. 

Producing an alphabet from number plates and ‘car snooker’; came subsequent in the list. 

Occupying youngsters

Some parents set maths tests in the car, combined with card games, a cricket registration plate spotting game and spying Eddie Stobart lorries. 

Elsewhere on the list of tricks parents use to occupy youngsters is supplying meals (22%), and playing music (19%).

Some 15% recommend games, 8% used recorded books and 7% have toys on standby.

People with a baby under one will hazard a maximum journey of 4 hours on average, the study identified, but those with youngsters aged 12 and over are pleased to drive for 6.

Practically 45% of folks with little ones have motored all the way to the continent with them in tow.
