2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen Pricing Announced, Starts at $22,215

406eb 2015 golf sportwagen 626x417

Bro-hug it out, Volkswagen fanboys: No wicked Golf R Variant, super-diesel GTD Estate, or butch Golf Alltrack is coming here, probably ever. But the regular-grade 2015 Golf SportWagen will be a fairly decent deal for men and women craving an cost-effective compact station wagon. Beginning rates for the gasoline model have crept up a bit but the base TDI actually has gotten drastically less expensive.

As we’ve pointed out, VW’s lil’ wagon is no longer named a Jetta (which was sort of a misnomer anyway). The new version switches to the corporate MQB platform underpinning the 2015 Golf. Volkswagen calls the new physique “cab backward” and its profile is a tinge a lot more swept-back and to our eyes more handsome. Component of that is due to the .9-inch decrease roof, 2.2-inch longer wheelbase, and 1.1-inch increase in length. Width is up by .7 inch, and as you’d count on from such measurements, there’s slightly far more shoulder and leg space (despite the fact that VW of America isn’t confident specifically how much far more). The official specs have total cargo volume shrinking by .4 cubic feet to 66.5, but we’re told Germany’s measurements do not align with our SAE requirements. Depending on trim level, curb weight is stated to be down by up to 137 pounds, though we’ll want to verify that on our own scales.

The TSI version’s 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivers 170 horsepower—the identical as the outgoing 2.5-liter 5—but direct injection aids it acquire 3 mpg on the EPA highway cycle, to 36 mpg when equipped with the 5-speed manual. The 2.-liter TDI bests the 2014 Jetta SportWagen by 1 mpg, for 43 mpg highway. (City numbers are not yet obtainable.) As usual, the TDI gets the better transmissions, with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. A 6-speed automatic is common on all but the base TSI.

Here’s a rundown of base pricing (with destination) and gear by trim level (you will not see all-wheel drive, but that’ll come following the initial April launch):

TSI S: $ 22,215 Normal gear consists of 15-inch alloy wheels (an upgrade and a downgrade from the base Jetta’s 16-inch steelies), power windows and locks,  A/C (we’d sure hope so), Bluetooth, touchscreen radio, VW’s iPod/iPhone-only interface (no USB ports), and leatherette (vinyl) trim. The automatic charges $ 1100. The base price tag is $ 400 much more than the outgoing Jetta SportWagen 2.5 S, but the new automobile has a lot more normal equipment.

TSI SE: $ 27,815 Quite a jump from the S, the SE consists of 17-inch alloys, fog lamps, a panoramic moonroof, a backup camera, a Fender stereo, and keyless entry with push-button start off. Optional bi-xenon adaptive headlamps with LED DRLs and ambient interior lighting are part of the $ 995 Lighting package. The $ 695 Driver Assistance package includes forward collision alert and rear parking sensors.

TSI SEL: $ 30,165 The SEL adds 18-inch alloys, automatic climate manage, navigation, chrome roof rails, so-named “sport comfort” seats with 12-way energy adjustment for the driver, ambient lighting, and LED map lights. The Driver Help and Lighting packages are obtainable.

TDI S: $ 25,415 The base diesel’s further common characteristics beyond these on the gasoline TSI S consist of 16-inch alloys, a backup camera, and keyless entry with push-button commence. A 6-speed stick is common the 6-speed DSG is $ 1100 extra. All told, this is down $ 1970 from a base Jetta SportWagen TDI.

TDI SE: $ 28,815 Regular gear is the identical as the TSI SE, except for the common 6-speed manual instead of an automatic. Very same choice packages and DSG available.

TDI SEL: $ 31,165 The gear right here mirrors the TSI SEL, but with a stick. Very same selection packages and DSG obtainable.

People’s Wheels Awards 2015 – Finalists Announced

c0221 People wheels award 2015

The 4th annual Standard Bank People’s Wheels Awards are due to be held on Thursday, November 13, at the Montecasino Ballroom in 4ways, Johannesburg.

Initiated by the Future Group in association with Standard Bank, research house TNS South Africa and media partner Sunday Times, the People’s Wheels Awards provide the automotive sector with a unique platform to reward vehicle excellence.

South Africans came out in numbers to vote for their favourite cars in the 2015 Standard Bank People’s Wheels Awards survey. The online polls were open for over 3 months, from June to August, and once again the results were impressive. About 60 000 votes were recorded across the competition’s 22 categories.

Furthermore, a record number of responses were received from vehicle owners in a survey designed to determine their satisfaction levels with regard to the cars and bakkies they drive every day.

“Standard Bank as one of the key financiers of car buyers and lovers in South Africa believes that all motorists should have a voice in deciding what our country’s most esteemed cars should be. Nobody can better assess the merits of vehicles than the people who drive them. The awards enable motorists to use their experiences, and those of others to help them to make informed comparisons and purchasing decisions,” says Nicholas Nkosi, Head of Vehicle and Asset Finance – Personal Markets at Standard Bank.

“The People’s Wheels Awards’ success undoubtedly rests on 2 major factors. It is an event in which all motorists can be heard and an event in which every vote counts.”

The results of the survey present crucial insight for marketers and offer relevant and useful information to consumers regarding ownership perceptions of vehicle brands, as well as reliability, durability and loyalty factors.

Wynter Murdoch, Automotive Editor-in-Chief at Future Group, says: “Ordinary motorists can have their voices heard. The People’s Wheels Awards is the ultimate leveler in the car awards stakes.  The results reflect feelings on the ground and allow all brands, regardless of inclusivity or exclusivity, to participate on an equal basis for various classes of accolades. Acceptance of a vehicle’s merits and the ‘wow’ factor it arouses within the people, rather than the size of marketing budgets, is what counts.”

So, who voted for what in the 2015 poll? While full results will be revealed at the awards ceremony, to whet your appetite, here is a list of the vehicles that voters selected as their top 6 nominees in each of the 22 categories.

Presented category by category in alphabetical order, they range from budget buys to family sedans, from premium class road warriors to exotic supercars, from SUVs, MPVs and crossovers to delivery vans and bakkies. The nominees are:

Reform of automobile insurance coverage market place announced

Regulators have announced plans to enhance competition among automobile insurance providers, which must result in cheaper cover for motorists.

Regulators have announced plans to boost competition among auto insurance providers, which need to result in cheaper cover for motorists.

The measures incorporate:

  • far better information for buyers on the costs and rewards of no-claims bonus protection.

  • a recommendation that the market regulator, the Monetary Conduct Authority (FCA), appears at how insurers inform customers about add-ons to automobile insurance policies.

  • a ban on agreements amongst cost comparison websites and insurers which quit insurers selling policies for less on other online websites.

These measures had been announced on Wednesday by government physique the Competitors and Markets Authority (CMA).

This follows a 2-year investigation into the vehicle insurance coverage marketplace to see how it could operate better for motorists.

Elevated competitors ‘will benefit motorists’;

Alasdair Smith of the CMA mentioned: “There are more than 25 million privately registered vehicles in the UK.

“We feel these changes will advantage motorists who are presently paying higher premiums as a outcome of the difficulties we’;ve discovered.”

He said that price tag comparison internet sites such as Confused.com “definitely support motorists appear for the greatest deal, and this in turn has led insurers to compete a lot more intensely”.

But he added that there could be improvements in the way such internet sites operate.

Value comparison web site improvements

One of these improvements is the ban on agreements in between cost comparison internet sites and insurers which avoid insurers selling policies for less on rival comparison internet sites.

Confused.com does not have any such agreements with insurers in place.

Steve Sanders, finance director at Confused.com, mentioned: “The news that the CMA has banned such agreements amongst value comparison websites and insurers is welcomed by Confused.com.

“This ruling will allow us to supply better rates for the same cover to even much more clients.

“Here at Confused.com, we want to be capable to negotiate the very best offers we can with automobile insurance coverage providers and in turn pass those savings on to consumers.

“We will continue to operate with insurance coverage providers to ensure we give our clients the greatest achievable service and value for their insurance demands, while remaining competitive.”

2-year investigation

This investigation into the vehicle insurance marketplace started in 2012.

This was when the Workplace of Fair Trading (OFT) decided to refer insurers to the Competition Commission after its personal study identified that insurers were taking benefit of motorists.

The CMA took more than the investigation from the Competitors Commission in April 2014.

The OFT identified that many insurers have been inflating the cost of repairs and replacement automobiles when 1 of their consumers had been involved in a automobile accident which was not their fault.

Nonetheless, the CMA investigation located that this was not as big a dilemma as previously imagined.

Alasdair Smith of the CMA added that the government body was nonetheless now looking at approaches to preserve the charges related with courtesy automobiles as low as attainable.

2015 Mustang Gets Some A lot more Kicks: Information Announced for New Performance Pack

July 17, 2014 at 6:43 pm by Jeff Stork | Photography by Marc Urbano and the Manufacturer

b5fa3 2015 Ford Mustang 2.3L EcoBoost 101 626x382

We currently know that the 2015 Ford Mustang will debut with an all-new, 4-wheel independent suspension and upgraded brakes, and we even know how much it will weigh, but information are emerging on the optional Overall performance packages that will give the new pony a tiny extra kick. There are 2 Efficiency packages: 1 for the EcoBoost fastback/coupe (or convertible) and one particular for the GT fastback/coupe.

The Performance packages are primarily Track packs with a new name they’ll come with specific springs, special bushings, and monotube rear dampers, along with further engine-cooling capacity, a thicker rear anti-roll bar, a K-brace beneath the hood to tie the strut towers to the bulkhead, and a center gauge pack. In addition, there are distinct calibrations for the ABS, stability manage, and electric-assisted energy steering.

From there, the EcoBoost model’s Functionality pack ($ 1995) will feature 4-piston, aluminum fixed-caliper brakes with 13.9-inch rotors up front, and single-piston, iron floating calipers in the rear with 13.-inch rotors. It will function a 3.55:1 axle ratio, and will ride on Pirelli 255/40R19 Y-speed-rated tires front and rear mounted on 19.- x 9.-inch aluminum wheels completed in Ebony black.

b5fa3 2015 Ford Mustang 2.3L EcoBoost 114 626x382

The GT’s Performance pack ($ 2495) takes issues up a notch: The front brakes are 6-piston Brembos with fixed aluminum calipers clamping 15.-inch rotors (the exact same as the 2014 Shelby GT500) the rear brakes are shared with the EcoBoost Efficiency pack. The final-drive ratio is 3.73:1 and a Torsen differential is specified. Up front, it wears the very same 255/40R19 Y-speed Pirellis and 19.- x 9.5-inch Ebony black wheels from the EcoBoost’s Overall performance pack, but at the rear the GT version wears even beefier 275/40R19 Pirelli shoes on 19.- x 9.5-inch wheels. A strut-tower brace and a distinctive front splitter, which directs cooling air to the brakes, total the package.

Ford claims that a 2015 Mustang GT with the Performance pack regularly beats the lap occasions of the 2012–2013 Boss 302 in track testing that sounds like a single test we’ll have to attempt for ourselves.
