Powerful March 23, 2015, Ohio motorists will now be capable to show proof of monetary responsibility to traffic violations bureaus, courts, Bureau of Motor Autos (BMV) and/or law enforcement through use of an electronic wireless communications device, the insurance coverage department announced.
For proof of insurance purposes, electronic wireless communications devices include the following:
- Wireless telephone, which includes a cell telephone
- Personal digital assistants
- Computer systems, such as a laptops, netbooks or tablets or
- Any other substantially comparable wireless device that is created or employed to communicate and display text and images.
BMV and the Ohio Department of Insurance coverage (ODI) would like to remind Ohioans that it is illegal to drive any motor automobile without having insurance coverage or other economic duty (FR) proof in Ohio. It is also illegal for any motor vehicle owner to permit any individual else to drive the owner’s car without having FR proof.
Paper versions of proof of insurance coverage will continue to be accepted and motorists are encouraged to preserve an updated copy with them at all instances.
