GM’s Mark Reuss: Cadillac Isn’t Prepared for a Sports Auto, Chevy Code Is Dead, Modest-Block V-eight Isn’t in Danger

f0df0 2016 Cadillac CT6 102 e1428094608394 626x382

Cadillac’s new CT6 will not be the brand’s flagship, the new Ford Mustang did not influence the soon-to-debut new Chevy Camaro, and the small-block V-8 is not going anyplace. So said GM executive vice president Mark Reuss in a discussion with reporters at the New York auto show.

Reuss described the firm priorities thusly: “to grow Cadillac, and get Chevrolet back in the vehicle game, truly feed Buick and GMC, get Opel straightened around, and get our international operations profitable.”

At New York, of course, a lot interest was focused on Cadillac, what with the unveiling of the CT6. Right after explaining that a extended-wheelbase version is not in the cards, Reuss said that the CT6 “is not the flagship,” adding that “there’s a car above this.” He would not, even so, take the bait in referring to that larger-level entry as a production version of the swoon-inducing Elmiraj concept.

What about a dedicated sports vehicle for Cadillac? “The brand’s got to be ready to do some thing like that. Right now it’s not. I don’t consider doing a auto like that is going to adjust the brand image right now, either.”

Asked where is Cadillac in the method of rebuilding its reputation, Reuss was blunt: “Year one. I feel we’re talking to ourselves if we feel that we’re on the consideration list of people, in volume, in the luxury segment. So let’s get real about it, and preserve hammering, and keep creating excellent vehicles and trucks, and individuals commence to notice and want to attempt anything diverse, and that’s our opportunity. There’s a entire generation out there whose moms and dads drove BMWs and Audis and Mercedes, and they didn’t drive Cadillacs. We need to get on that consideration list with fantastic automobiles and trucks. In that sense, from a item-improvement standpoint, we’re a lot more than year one particular. From a brand standpoint, we’re year one particular.”

A Cadillac model smaller than the ATS observed here is unlikely.

From a solution standpoint, however, “we’re halfway there, because we’ve filled out half the portfolio that our competitors have.” While Cadillac will be adding a lot more models, it sounds as if these might not extend to the very bottom of the luxury segment. “We’re not going to fill out some of the decrease-finish factors with the depth of some of our competitors just to match them,” Reuss stated. He makes the point that given that GM has tiny, higher-mpg models in its other divisions, Cadillac does not want to field low-volume compliance automobiles in the way that other luxury brands may have to.

On the topic of low-volume niche goods, do not look for Reuss to ram through pet projects. “I consider a big basic way to consider about how the company’s diverse these days is we had single advocates—no matter what the market place data said—who would push a program into production. And some would be okay, and some would fail.”

Sounds like we’re talking about, oh, say, Bob Lutz. “I look at the [Pontiac] Solstice and [Saturn] Sky, and some of these cars—and I owned a Solstice, so I’m not talking out of school—but the car was okay. It was very pretty, it was extremely nice. But these are not moneymaking automobiles for us. And by the way we didn’t sell that many. I think gone are the days of an individual in my position pushing solution on men and women and attempting to sell and rally help on them. We’ve got to be consumer-focused.”

To that end, the sweet, rear-drive Chevy Code 130R concept coupe [pictured above] is dead. This despite Reuss’s prior enthusiasm for the project. “We looked at that and we looked at our competitors who have been doing things like that and what the market told us was that was not a great concept. The volumes of these issues were terrible.”

Asked regardless of whether the 2015 Ford Mustang set a bar for the new Camaro, Reuss was a lot more succinct: “No.” He then added, “We did the vehicle way just before the new Mustang came out.”

What about the little-block V-8? Are its days numbered? “No. Do not see it taking place.”

Corvette Energy, Cadillac Platform, Rad Exhaust Noise Confirmed for 2016 Chevy Camaro

350ea 2016 Chevrolet Camaro ArchitectureTeaser 626x233

The 2016 Camaro had much better damn nicely be faster than the trickle speed at which Chevy is releasing its particulars. A couple of days after we were shown the Camaro’s new/old badge design and told when to anticipate the car’s debut, and nearly a full year since we 1st published spy pictures of the vehicle, Chevrolet has released 2 more tidbits surrounding the powertrain and the platform.

72310 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS spy photo PLACEMENT 626x382

The most recent from Chevy? The new Camaro is receiving a version of the Cadillac ATS’s Alpha platform, as effectively as GM’s fifth-generation LT1 V-8. We already knew that Caddy’s Alpha architecture would be place to use as the basis of the 2016 Camaro, and it was largely assumed that the muscle automobile would ditch its outdated LS3 V-8 for the General’s latest and greatest small-block. Nonetheless, this confirmation is good news. The Alpha bones are lighter, stronger, and more capable than the current Camaro’s bulky Zeta underpinnings. The LT1 V-8 is an absolutely epic thing, with cylinder deactivation, direct fuel injection, and a Vette-load of energy.

We suspect that, as in the past, the LT1 will make significantly less power in the Camaro than it does in the Corvette, even even though both vehicles will share a 6.2-liter displacement. (The base Corvette Stingray makes 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque bet on around 400 for the Camaro.) Chevy says that more than 20 % of the LT1’s parts have been optimized for the Camaro, and it even released an audio clip of the new engine ripping by means of the gears (listen beneath). It sounds great. And a lot quicker than Chevrolet’s long, slow tease. The wait will be more than soon—the 2016 Camaro debuts on Detroit’s Belle Isle in May possibly. Unsurprisingly, we’re not the only ones eagerly anticipating the new Camaro Chevy required to shut down the online registration it had set up for present Camaro owners to attend the reveal event following just 8 hours due to the powerful response.

Chevy Bolt Could Get a Different, Less-Confusing Name

f05de Chevrolet Bolt concept 101 626x382

When Chevy first revealed the all-electric Bolt idea at Detroit, a murmur came up from the crowd. It wasn’t just oohs and aahs: It was a puzzled query of misunderstanding. “Did they say Volt?”

Yes, Chevy’s decision to rhyme its Tesla Model 3–fighting cost-effective EV with its plug-in-hybrid Volt was a bit of a head-scratcher. And now, it seems, the firm is prepared to step it back: The Detroit Totally free Press reports that Alan Batey, president of GM North America, is contemplating a re-name of the battery-powered runabout just before it hits the streets in model year 2017.

“Some individuals feel it is confusing,” Batey said. “People are having some exciting with it. It is producing awareness, which is very good,” he went on. “It’s so conversational.”

It is also easy to miss-hear in conversation. And thinking ahead to when the electric car goes on sale, it could lead to some awkward misunderstandings amongst clients and dealers—especially provided the price difference in between the $ 30,000 (following federal tax credit) aim GM is aiming at for this automobile and the $ 35,000-plus MSRP of the larger, hybrid-powered Volt.

“We’re still in the decision phase,” Batey said in the course of the Chicago auto show. “It could go either way.” Even though Batey would not say no matter whether the existing Volt or the upcoming Bolt-or-whatever-they-finish-up-calling-it create any profit for GM, he pointed out the importance of getting at the forefront of new automotive tech. “Unlike Tesla, we can spread the expense more than a entire lineup,” he added.

When the Bolt-or-what ever goes on sale, it will be accessible in all 50 states, and GM promises a range of 200 miles among charges. As for the name? What ever they decide on, among the Bolt and the Volt, Chevy is positive to give the green-auto market place a jolt. (Sorry.)

Batman as Middle Manager: Chevy to Introduce Blacked-Out Midnight Edition Impala

af527 impala blackout 1 626x382

If you are the complete-sized, front-driven sedan kind, bigness and comfort surely loom massive on your list of automotive priorities. But those who’d like a dose of sinister with their size—some ferocity with their fluff, if you will—have historically been forced more than to the rear-drive side of the fence (we refuse to believe that the Taurus SHO is sinister), or they’ve trekked to Jackie’s Property of Darkened Accessories in an try to mute the shiny happiness of their rides. “No much more!” say the guys operating under the auspices of Louis Chevrolet. “We’re bringing Jackie’s Property to your residence!” And the proof of that word pudding is appropriate here:  the upcoming Chevy Impala Midnight Edition.

Now, just before we continue we should point out that the Impala pictured above is, in reality, the Blackout Idea Chevy brought to this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. That sedan served as the inspiration for the Midnight Edition, which must put on a similar motif. Powered by GM’s 3.6-liter, 305-horsepower V-6, the no-overall performance-added Midnight Edition need to bow in late spring and nominally follows Nigel Tufnel’s “none more black” dictum. According to Edmunds, the snappy galoot will feature a blacked-out grille center-punched with a black bowtie badge. Wouldn’t a Flowtie stand as an even far more potent symbol of the void, a yawning paragon of the inky null? We demand absolutely nothing less than utter nihilism, GM!

Per Billy Idol, she cries “More, far more, much more!” in the midnight hour, and Chevy gladly serves it up with black wheels, a black rear spoiler, black-painted mirror caps and black 19-inch wheels. The interior, is, of course, black. The issue is, it could be blacker. There nevertheless is some brigh2rk around the daylight opening. The lights are not blacklights. The wheels have some aluminum flash to ‘em. But with the witching hour close at hand, Jackie’s gotta keep the lights on somehow, appropriate?

  • All Chevrolet Spark models available with at least 2 airbags and ABS

  • Safety features of utmost importance in all derivatives

  • Spark safety reputation hits home in South Africa

30 OCTOBER 2014 - The Chevrolet Spark, which remains one of South Africa’;s most affordable vehicles, highlights safety features as some of its most important aspects. All derivatives in the Spark range, which consists of 6 versions, feature a minimum of 2 airbags, along with ABS and EBD, as standard.

Considered a no-brainer by General Motors South Africa, Chevrolet Brand Manager, Tim Hendon, elaborates: “We have adopted a no-compromise approach with the Chevy Sark in South Africa, a country where both fatal and non-fatal road accidents are rife. We pride ourselves on the importance of safety, where a compromise on modern safety elements like ABS and airbags is not an option.

We are committed to providing our customers with safe vehicles, no matter how cost-effective they may need to be.” Spark safety credentials are important on a global level, where in the United States the Chevrolet Spark was awarded the Top Safety Pick accolade from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) earlier in 2014 – the only supermini to achieve the award thanks to an Acceptable rating in the Institute’;s small overlap crash test. Airbags aside, the Spark’;s body construction, which includes strategic crumple zones and impact protection beams, contributed to the high rating.
c860c Chevvy spark The Chevrolet Spark’;s safety credentials were also highlighted in the South African context in 2014, when an accident involving 2 pensioners in the Eastern Cape saw their Spark subjected to a high-speed impact. Both occupants walked away from the accident with only slight bruising, the driver – 69-year-old Denise Westgate – having remarked at how her vehicle’;s ABS and EBD allowed for control to be maintained and that the structural integrity of the body allowed for a safe and easy exit once the vehicle had stopped moving. Westgate went on to replace her vehicle with another Spark.

“We build the Chevrolet Spark in Port Elizabeth to international GM standards in all respects, with safety regulations and requirements of the highest level to ensure our vehicles are as safe as possible. It’;s a simple, no-compromise approach to the most important facet of our interaction with the people who drive our vehicles – their safety,” concludes Hendon.

What a Jolt: Subsequent-Gen Base Chevy Volt Could Be Named “Bolt”

b9835 2016 chevrolet volt spy photo photo 622844 s 1280x782 626x382

Could a more affordable, entry-level Chevrolet Volt be called “Bolt” when the new plug-in hybrid debuts next year? According to a current trademark filing found by GM Authority, yes, it’s in the cards.

Common Motors applied with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Workplace last week for “Chevrolet Bolt,” and while there’s absolutely nothing more to it, “Bolt” plays along with GM’s other electrically themed names, Volt and Spark. Offered the timing of the 2016 Volt’s split into 2 models, which includes one particular that will supposedly be sold for $ 30,000, “Bolt” could be a playful rhyme next to the company’s flagship plug-in. Or it may just be cover in case a Chinese organization decides to steal GM’s thunder. At worst, it could make people believe of the loose metal bolts coming off of GM vehicles in the company’s most current spate of recalls. But we digress.

In the same week, GM also submitted applications for “Sierra Elevation”—which sounds like GMC’s take on the Silverado Higher Country—and requested to revive the Hummer name for the “portable electric energy generators” category. If a Hummer generator wasn’t weird adequate, how about a GMC barbecue grill, which GM also applied for final week? Here’s hoping the ignition switch works on that 1.
