Police officer arrested with stolen vehicle after vehicle tracking success

On Friday, 2015-01-16 at 14:10 members of a vehicle tracking company picked up a signal of a stolen vehicle in the Jacobs area. They tracked the vehicle from Jacobs until found the vehicle in the Verulam area. They pulled the vehicle over and confronted the driver of the stolen vehicle. It is alleged that suspect pointed his firearm at the tracking company employees who opened fire on him. The suspect was shot twice in the shoulder. It was later discovered that the suspect was an off-duty constable from the Inanda Tactical Response Team. The 41-year-old suspect was arrested by members of the SAPS and is currently under police guard in a Durban hospital. His state firearm has also been seized as well as the Toyota Hilux LDV that he was driving. We will be charged with attempted murder, pointing of a firearm as well as possession of property suspected to be stolen.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni on hearing of the arrest expressed her disgust at the conduct of the police officer. “I am extremely disappointed to hear of yet another member involved in criminal activity. We will ensure that detectives throw the book at him as soon as he is released from hospital. We will not tolerate police officers who are criminals themselves and you can be assured that disciplinary processes will be immediately initiated to get rid of him from the service,” she said.

Can a traffic officer summons a coach(bus) driver if the passengers on board did not wear their safety belts?

Question:

Can a traffic officer summons a coach(bus) driver if the passengers on board did not wear their safety belts. I am talking about 65 seater double decker.

Answer:

Technically a double deck bus does not have to have seatbelts fitted. However reg 213 states that if a seatbelt is fitted to a seat the person must wear it. Subreg (11) states that the driver must ensure the passengers wear their seat belts, so yes.
