Starting final year, police got access to details on whether a car is insured by running a license plate number by way of an in-vehicle computer, The Bay City Times reported.
State police 1st Lt. David Simon, commander of the Tri-City Post in Bay County’s Williams Township, says the update led to his troopers issuing far more tickets with higher ease.
“It is convenient and it is nice for the officers to confirm if someone’s got insurance or not,” Simon said. “It’s a single much more factor we can do at a traffic stop or at a crash.”
Insurance coverage organizations routinely submit reports to the Michigan Secretary of State’s workplace. Although that practice had been in place for some time, officials stated the information wasn’t previously right away offered by way of the Law Enforcement Info Ne2rk, or LEIN.
