Efficient March 23, 2015, Ohio motorists will now be able to show proof of financial responsibility to site visitors violations bureaus, courts, Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and/or law enforcement through use of an electronic wireless communications device, the insurance coverage division announced.
For proof of insurance purposes, electronic wireless communications devices consist of the following:
- Wireless phone, including a cell phone
- Private digital assistants
- Computer systems, such as a laptops, netbooks or tablets or
- Any other substantially related wireless device that is designed or used to communicate and show text and pictures.
BMV and the Ohio Department of Insurance coverage (ODI) would like to remind Ohioans that it is illegal to drive any motor car without having insurance or other monetary duty (FR) proof in Ohio. It is also illegal for any motor car owner to enable anyone else to drive the owner’s vehicle without having FR proof.
Paper versions of proof of insurance coverage will continue to be accepted and motorists are encouraged to keep an updated copy with them at all instances.
