Honda is discontinuing its Match EV by the end of the year as it concentrates on other types of electrified autos such as the Accord PHEV and the production version of the futuristic-looking FCEV notion that rocked the 2013 L.A. auto show.

The Match is the most recent casualty of Honda’s evolving approach to electromobility. Earlier this year, Honda announced its decision to discontinue the slow-promoting Insight hybrid, but this news regarding the Match EV is, nicely, news contemplating the push toward electrification in today’s automotive landscape. Not that the car’s departure is all that surprising: Primarily based on the earlier-gen Fit, the EV was primarily built to satisfy a California zero-emissions car mandate, and distribution of the lease-only model had constantly been capped at a mere 1100. In a telephone interview with us, Honda spokesman Sage Marie told us that Honda is committed to leasing all 1100 Match EVs, despite the fact that he did not know how many a lot more were left on dealer lots in the handful of states to which they have been allocated.

What do Honda’s BEV plans hold? Marie had valuable tiny to say on the subject, stating only that “We are committed to electromotive technology, such as hybrids, plug-in hybrids, BEVs, PHEVs, and fuel-cell automobiles. Our path forward consists of a robust lineup of those technologies.”

It appears that the tiny CR-Z isn’t going anyplace, nevertheless, even although Honda sold even fewer of them than it did Insights—1999 versus 2333 via June—despite a recent refresh for 2013. “It is going to be in our lineup for the foreseeable future,” said Marie.
