Adam Tang, alias “Afroduck,” has laid claim to the alleged quickest lap about Manhattan: 26.5 miles in just over 24 minutes. He may possibly also hold the title of world’s cockiest criminal, telling the NYPD to come and get him right after fleeing to his native Canada during the trial that discovered him guilty final week. The ‘Duck is on the lam.
In an interview with NYC’s WABC-Tv, 31-year-old Afroduck maintains his incredulousness at the legal proceedings against him. “I mean, positive, maybe I did a stupid point, I thought I could make a cool video, I thought New Yorkers would appreciate it . . . in hindsight, yeah, it was anything stupid, but do you feel what I did was harmful?”
The NYPD certain thought so. Soon after Afroduck uploaded a video of his record run to YouTube, the authorities tracked him down by way of his IP address. The state threw the book at him, and identified him guilty of second-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving.

Afroduck claims the jury had it out for him—at least one juror admitted to The New York Occasions that, even though he initially intended to acquit Afroduck, other jurors persuaded him that they required to make an instance. “What type of society is that?” he asks in his interview with WABC.
“I can do more from Canada than at Rikers,” Afroduck told Jalopnik in a phone interview from Canada. He claims NYPD officers have gone after his pregnant wife, who remains in Manhattan, for aiding and abetting. “They can come to Canada,” he tells Jalopnik. “They can play with Ottawa. They can play with the Canadian system. Then we’ll see what a genuine legal technique is like.”
Afroduck faces up to a year in prison more than the charges, as nicely as an added year for jumping bail if he does not return to the U.S. within 30 days. If he stays in Canada? Unless authorities attempt to extradite him, the worst he’ll face is the inability to return to the U.S. with out becoming arrested.
All of which points out the most painfully obvious of conclusions: If you are going to attempt to set a lap record on public roads, for pete’s sake do not go uploading video of it to YouTube unless you’re prepared to face the music.
