Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced these days that it will recall far more than 250,000 Dodge Ram 1500 pickups in the U.S. for a issue that can lead to the rear axle to lock up at speed. The concern is restricted to model year 2005 trucks built in between January 2004 and August 2005.
The dilemma stems from a rear-axle pinion nut that can function its way loose, potentially causing the rear axle to lock up with no warning. FCA reports that 3 accidents and a single injury are potentially related to the problem. NHTSA launched an investigation in June after receiving 15 incident complaints, 6 of which occurred at highway speeds with no prior warning of impending troubles.
The repair entails installing retaining hardware to make sure the pinion nut holds in location. FCA estimates 256,956 U.S. trucks are impacted, along with 21,779 in Canada and 8802 in Mexico.
