Must a learner driver drive with an L-Plate displayed?

Question:

Requirments for Learner Drivers – “L” Plates

I know in some countries a Learner Driver driving under a Provisional or Learners License MUST not drive if the vehicle is clearly marked with “L” Plates. Is this the case in RSA? If so, in which Legislation or Regulations can this be found? If not, can police officers still Fine said Learner driver for ‘Failure to Display “L” Plate’; even though he was accompanied by an Appropriately Licensed Driver? Thank You

At present I am not aware of any legislation requiring an L-plate to be displayed.

When the new Provisional Driving Licence becomes law, this requirement will apply:
